For this soybean farmer’s 20th harvest, a new visitor was welcomed to his farm.
Iowa Soybean Association At-Large Director Brent Renner hosted Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds aboard his combine today near Klemme.
“It was an honor and a privilege first and foremost to have the governor visit our farm. It was nice to have a captive audience while she rode with me in the combine,” Renner said. “She was fascinated by the technology in the combine cab as we all are the first time we see it.”
But the Governor’s visit was much more than a social one. They discussed policy priorities she is working on to assist soybean farmers during trying times.
“We had a good discussion about trade issues and how important those are to what we do,” Renner added. “We also spoke about biofuels and trying to get to a better place with the refinery waivers and what we can do to get over some of those challenges.”
The visit was a welcomed addition to their recently-started 2019 harvest.
“We were outside shivering before getting into the combine but even then she was talking to me about what sort of issues I’m facing as a farmer,” he said.
And no visit to the farm would be complete without some pictures and a visit with the family dog.
“She took some pictures on her own phone while in my combine,” he added. “And our dog, Sandy, didn’t even bark at her which is rare. She’s a great judge of character.”
