Iowa State University (ISU) student Samuel Lane of Mediapolis was presented the Iowa Soybean Association’s (ISA) Rising Star Award during a leadership recognition banquet held Jan. 27 in Des Moines.
Sponsored by Farm Credit Services of America, the award recognized the young farm leader for being a passionate advocate for Iowa agriculture.
Whether through educational presentations in 4-H and FFA and volunteering with clubs on ISU’s campus to promote agriculture, Lane has actively been involved in representing farm families and agricultural issues. He’s also an ISA collegiate Soy Squad participant, helping promote soybeans to consumers at events on ISU’s campus.
Through it all, he has worked diligently to be involved in his family’s operation, working alongside his parents to learn the ins and outs of farming.
“I’ve started to help make decisions about inputs and manage our use of technology and the resulting data,” says Lane. “I recently implemented the use of drones on our farm to help us make better decisions during the growing season.”
After graduation, Lane intends to return to his family’s farm.
“Utilizing my education from Iowa State University and resources from agricultural groups like the Iowa Soybean Association, I’m excited to continue to work towards higher yields, while protecting the soil and water on our farm.”
Lane looks forward to getting more involved with ISA by attending local meetings, partnering with the ISA’s research team and advocating for Iowa agriculture.
