Mark your calendar for ISA's DAC Day01/11/2018 | Policy, Soybean News, Ag Awareness, Economics
The annual Iowa Soybean Association (ISA) District Advisory Council (DAC) Day takes place Jan. 30. All DAC members, ISA directors and members are invited to attend. The event takes place from 10:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Embassy Suites in Des Moines, with the association’s legislative reception taking place from 6-9 p.m.
So what is DAC Day? ISA Director of Producer Services Heather Lilienthal says if you are a music lover, you most likely have a “go-to” song playlist or favorite songs that get you through your day. And you may discover new songs to add to that list.
That’s what the DAC community is like: a dependable playlist representing a variety of interests. It’s a connection to ISA experts, programs and services and a list of fellow farmers to talk to and learn from. Every year, this group meets to highlight the latest hits and look ahead to the tunes to come.
“I love the playlist analogy,” said Lilienthal. “Our DAC members look to ISA for many reasons; from conducting on-farm research projects to conservation help to working with the media to policy development. This annual event gets this group together to reconnect to each other, share successes and challenges and learn.”
The attendees range from long-time members to farmers new to the association. Darcy Maulsby, a farmer and writer from Calhoun County, is a regular participant of DAC Day.
“DAC Day is like a family reunion and an excellent training seminar all rolled into one,” Maulsby said. “I'm willing to invest time away from my business to become a more effective leader, and DAC Day always delivers a solid return on investment. I get to learn from other farmer leaders, plus the speakers are informative and inspiring. DAC Day motivates me to do even more to advocate for Iowa agriculture. I appreciate that the Iowa Soybean Association offers this amazing opportunity.”
The agenda includes updates from ISA staff experts; Kent Stock, a motivational speaker featured in the movie “A Final Season;” farmer food talk with Iowa grocery experts and leaders; state and national policy leaders and more.
