Emerging Opportunities Regarding Soil Health is the title of an upcoming event sponsored in part by the Iowa Soybean Association (ISA) and Linn Co-op Oil Company.

Evan Brehm, ISA conservation agronomist, says the conference is focused on farmers within the Middle Cedar Watershed.

“Attendees can expect to gain an understanding of the goals of water quality initiatives we are trying to accomplish in the Middle Cedar watershed and the various cost-share programs available to them,” he says.

Mary Beth Stevenson, watershed and source water coordinator with the city of Cedar Rapids, will present on the Regional Conservation Partnership Program (RCPP) opportunities available within the Middle Cedar watershed.

“Attendees will see how we can all work together, specifically within an urban setting of Cedar Rapids,” says Brehm.

Other speakers for the event include Derrick Anderson, grower support specialist from Truterra on the company’s soil health assessment offerings; Kevin Bodensteiner, account manager with Verdesian Life Sciences on the company’s nutrient-use efficiency products and Susan Kozak, division director for soil conservation and water quality with the Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land stewardship.

Brehm says he will share the ISA conservation network story, including some technical agronomic conservation principles and how everyone can work together to achieve a common goal.

“It’s about educating farmers on the stance ISA is taking in conservation, how we can assist them and work closely with other organizations such as Truterra and Verdesian Life Sciences with what they are doing aligns with the conservation and soil health goals we want to accomplish,” he says.

Emerging Opportunities Regarding Soil Health will be held Jan. 31 from 9 a.m. – noon at the Kirkwood Hotel Events Center in Cedar Rapids.
