What the latest on-farm research tells us about nitrogen stabilizers

October 20, 2026

Farmers invest heavily in nitrogen, but timing, weather and soil conditions can affect how much of it reaches the crop. Can using a nitrogen stabilizer help protect that investment?

On this episode, Iowa Soybean Association Research Agronomy Lead Alex Schaffer and Andrew Luzum, nitrogen stabilizer specialist at Corteva Agriscience, share the science behind nitrogen stabilizers.

Alex shares findings from ISA’s 2026 on-farm trials comparing spring-applied anhydrous ammonia with and without Corteva's N-Serve nitrogen stabilizer. Andrew then explains how nitrogen stabilizers work and where they may fit into a farmer's operation.

Together, they discuss application timing, weather, cost and equipment considerations and connect the research results to potential benefits for crop productivity, fertilizer efficiency and environmental stewardship.
