Innovation to Profit Series in Lewis

Locally led, locally relevant and locally driven to deliver. Join the Iowa Soybean Association’s (ISA) Research Center for Farming Innovation (RCFI) team as they showcase research findings and actionable steps to improve productivity and profitability on the farm.
The Innovation to Profit Series will include a stop in southwest Iowa in Lewis on Feb. 13.
“We will not only keep spring fieldwork front of mind but will discuss ways to improve a farmer’s ROI and utilizing research to help improve their operation,” says ISA Conservation Agronomist Joe Wuebker. “It’s an opportunity for our staff and farmers to bounce ideas off each other as we move into spring.”
The day begins with ISA Research Agronomist Drew Clemmensen and ISA Data Analyst Anthony Martin summarizing ISA research trial results from seeding rate, long-term cover crop and biological trials.
Wuebker will dig deeper into preparing for spring, discussing the timing of cover crop termination, planting and early season scouting tips.
He will also discuss cost-share opportunities available to farmers in the state's southwest region to help implement conservation practices.
Mitch Baum, a postdoctoral researcher at Iowa State University, will present “Enhancing Nitrogen Recommendations using Data” and the Iowa Nitrogen Initiative.
Baum will give a short overview of the project and present yield response data from the 2023 trials, ending with an update on decision support tool development and trials of interest for 2024.
The Innovation to Profit meeting will be held at the Wallace Learning Center, Armstrong Memorial Research farm, 53020 Hitchcock Ave., Lewis, from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.
