Trial: Relay Cropping - Wheat

Relay intercropping is an intensive cropping system that produces three crops in two years. The relay intercropping system, while more intensive, is designed to improve soil health and reduce nutrient losses while increasing productivity and profitability. This research will explore in 2027 intercropping wheat with soybeans to better understand the value proposition of diversifying crop production for better profitability.

This trial will be implemented in the fall.

Farmer Will Receive

• You'll receive 10 units of wheat seed and 20 units of soybean seed to be planted into the trial

Farmer Eligibility and Responsibility

A field that will be in soybean production in 2027 Willingness to dedicate 15-30 acres of production ground to a trial Ability to plant wheat seed in strips in the fall and soybeans in the spring across the trial area Combine equipped with a well-calibrated yield monitor Provide field management data and yield data from the wheat and soybeans
