Trial: Iowa Nitrogen Initiative

The Iowa Nitrogen Initiative is a private-public partnership with a vision to provide Iowans with the best nitrogen science in the world for the benefit of productivity, profitability and environmental performance.

This trial will be implemented in the spring and fall.

Farmer Will Receive

In the trials with treatment that receive zero nitrogen (no fall, spring or manure), an individualized payment to cover yield loss based on the yield at the optimum, the yield in the zero N treatment acres and the grain market.

Farmer Eligibility and Responsibility

A field that will be planted to corn and using synthetic fertilizer alone or with manure. Ability to apply (yourself or local retailer) a variable rate nitrogen prescription for a portion of the season's nitrogen (fall, spring or in-season). Combine equipped with a well-calibrated yield monitor. Provide field management data and past yield maps.
