January 25, 2021

Meet all the 2021 Recipients

Mike Coleman of Humboldt was presented the Innovator in Production Research Award by the Iowa Soybean Association (ISA) on Monday.

Coleman was honored in a virtual presentation, highlighting the many ways Coleman innovates on his operation. Sponsored by John Deere, the award seeks to honor those leading the way in the use of precision agriculture technology and practices improving soybean profitability.

“It’s humbling to accept this award,” said Coleman. “It’s been a long, enjoyable partnership with ISA and I look forward to more trials and data that will help my operation continually improve.”

Working with ISA, Coleman and his family participate in population studies, seed treatments, fertilizer and fungicide trials and soil and stalk sampling. The family also installs their own field tile and improves the farm through grain marketing and yield maps.

In addition to these innovative practices, Coleman also implements filter strips and a bioreactor to improve water quality.

Soybean farmers interested in partnering with the ISA’s Research Center for Farming Innovation are encouraged to call 515-281-8640 or go to iasoybeans.com.
