Improving your bottom line with grain management

Preserving stored grain is the key to making a profit. To address this issue, the Iowa Soybean Association (ISA) and Ag Growth International (AGI) are hosting a webinar discussing how better grain management could increase your return on investment for every bushel stored.

David Ahern, founder and owner of Turkey River Ag Sales, LLC, a distributor for AGI, will bring his grain management experience to the discussion on improving your bottom line with grain management, covering topics including:

  • Overview of grain conditioning
  • Choosing and managing a grain monitoring system
  • Increasing storage efficiency and profitability
  • Safety when working with stored grain

“Right now, growers may be focused on planting, and that is rightfully so, but many of them still have grain in the bin, so storage may not be top of mind,” says Ahern. “But we need to remember that crop in the bin is how we pay our bills, and we need to bring them back to how to manage the stored grain and be safe while doing so.”

With the unusually warm winter, there could be some concern for grain quality.

“We are seeing some farmers had frozen grain in their bins, whether they did that intentionally or unintentionally, there are warming effects happening,” he says. “We are taking a proactive approach to those situations to even out the temperatures in those bins for long-term storage.”

Matt Herman, ISA chief officer of demand and advocacy, will provide a policy update to close out the webinar.

The webinar will be held on Wednesday, March 20, from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m.
