Raised near La Porte City, Iowa, on a corn, soybean and beef cattle operation, Matt Herman has roots in agriculture and a career dedicated to building a more profitable and sustainable future for farmers.
As Chief Officer of Demand and Advocacy for the Iowa Soybean Association (ISA), Matt leads organizational strategy to grow long-term demand for Iowa-grown soybeans through partnerships, innovation, and strategic investment in the biofuels and oilseed sectors. He also co-leads Farmers Fueling the Future, a farmer-driven national initiative focused on aligning policy, certification, and market access to accelerate adoption of crop-based biofuels.
Before joining ISA, Matt worked in Washington, D.C. on environmental analysis and biofuel policy. He also served in multiple roles at Renewable Energy Group in Ames, where he led greenhouse gas accounting, supported regulatory strategy, and helped develop new low-carbon fuel pathways that improved both emissions outcomes and profitability.
Matt is an Iowa State University graduate with studies in policy, history, and bioenergy. He continues to work closely with industry partners, researchers, and policymakers to position soybeans as a cornerstone of low-carbon solutions at home and abroad.
