Rick Juchems

District 3 Director

Rick Juchems farms near Plainfield, Iowa and serves as a district 3 director for the Iowa Soybean Association (ISA). He grows soybeans, corn and produces hogs.

In his 41 years of farming, Juchems has found his passion in conservation. Throughout his land, Juchems uses terraces, waterways, prairie strips, cover crops, no-till and implements buffer strips on all his creeks. He strongly promotes the use of cover crops and assists his neighbors in implantation by being a resource and even providing seed. In addition to his soil and water conservation efforts, Juchems installed solar panels on his operation in June of 2019. Since then, he has all but eliminated his natural gas and coal footprint.

Juchems values the opportunities he’s had as a director for ISA. He is especially fond of his trade missions to Mexico, China and Japan and enjoyed getting to meet farmers in other countries and experiencing culture outside his own. He enjoys seeing how the rest of the world uses U.S. soy.

A leader in his community, Juchems is also a Farm Service Agency committee member and soil and water commissioner for Butler County. He is also vice president of the Northeast Iowa Research Farm board and serves on the Sustainable Ag Research and Education committee.
