Meet all the 2021 Recipients

Ethan Crow of Marshalltown was presented the New Leader Award by the Iowa Soybean Association (ISA) on Monday.

Sponsored by Corteva, it is presented to an ISA member who has recently grown their involvement in ISA programming and demonstrated outstanding leadership skills in support of the association and soybean industry.

“It’s a humbling experience to be nominated and selected,” said Crow. “It’s a testament to the platform the Iowa Soybean Association has given me to advocate and be a leader.”

Crow began his leadership journey with ISA in 2018 as a Communications Squad participant. The value-added program helps ISA members hone their communication skills and positively represent the industry to farmers, consumers, and reporters. Crow hit the ground running in his first year by speaking with several national media outlets and participating in a farmer panel for an Iowa educators conference, where he shared about his farm and his use of GMO’s, pesticides and livestock housing.

Now in his third year in the program, Crow has continued to be a voice for farmers to a variety of media outlets and most recently for the Iowa Food & Family Project. Crow showcased his farm and planting process to the organization’s social media audiences in a selfie-style video.

Never one to shy away from opportunities, Crow continues to be an outstanding leader within the Communications Squad program and has expanded his involvement with ISA by participating in field trials with the ISA Research Center for Farming Innovation.

“Many of the skills I’ve learned through the Communications Squad have translated flawlessly to other leadership activities I’m engaged in,” said Crow. “I continue to look for better ways to be a farmer and to share that with those who are removed from what we do.”
