Optimizing Fertilizer Investments

Overview

You're invited to Optimizing Your Fertilizer Investments, a 4R Stewardship event in August.

Participants will hear from a variety of experts on topics ranging from building a soil fertility program to better managing nitrogen on your farming operation. Participants will be able to attend all four sessions and hear from all the presenters.

Breakout Sessions and Speakers

Crop management practices and water quality

  • Speakers: Anthony Seeman, Ben Porepp; ISA
  • Content: Learn from ISA’s long term water quality sampling which practices are associated with improved water quality.

Building the foundation for your soil fertility program

  • Speaker: Antonio Mallarino, ISU
  • Content: New P and K recommendations, Cation Exchange Ratios and Soil Fertility, Nutrient Stratification in No-till production.

Fine tuning the foundation of your nutrient management program

  • Speaker: Dan Kaiser, UM
  • Content: Fertilizer application timing (especially P and K), Nitrification Inhibitors- know what you are buying, Merits of starter fertilizer, Biological Corn Nitrogen Fixation products and how to test them.

Improving nitrogen management

  • Speaker: Scott Nelson, ISA
  • Content: Review how nitrogen form and place affect profitability, nitrogen response across landscape positions and prospects for variable rate nitrogen.
