Iowa Soybean Association Director Brian Kemp Attends Advanced Leadership Program
ANKENY, Iowa - Brian Kemp, a soybean grower from Sibley and an Iowa Soybean Association director, recently participated in Part II of the American Soybean Association (ASA) Leadership At Its Best program. The program, sponsored was held in Washington, D.C., in conjunction with the ASA board meeting.

Kemp joined association leaders from 18 states and Canada to complete advanced leadership training that provides the skills necessary to be an effective voice for the U.S. soybean farmer. The program strengthens state farmer-leaders’ skills in leadership, communication, effectively addressing Congress and interacting with the media as well as understanding policy issues.

“With fewer producers involved with production agriculture today, there is a greater need than ever to train leaders to help develop agricultural policy and tell agriculture’s story,” Kemp says. “The Syngenta Leadership At Its Best program provided me and soybean growers from across the country with knowledge and skills to be better advocates for agriculture.”

ASA President Rob Joslin says the program is a terrific opportunity for state directors to strengthen their skills. “By taking a leadership role in Washington, D.C., growers will help the entire soybean industry benefit by continuing to help shape the future of American agriculture,” Joslin says.

More than 300 farmer-leaders have graduated from Leadership At Its Best program since its inception in 1992.

The Iowa Soybean Association develops policies and programs that help farmers expand profit opportunities while promoting environmentally sensitive production using the soybean checkoff and other resources. The Association is governed by an elected volunteer board of 21 farmers.
