RENEWABLE FUEL INFRASTRUCTURE BOARD MEETS, AWARDS $600,000 IN GRANTS

URBANDALE, Iowa - On Tuesday, Nov. 28, the Renewable Fuel Infrastructure Board (RFIB) met and awarded a series of grants for biodiesel and ethanol infrastructure projects.  Despite only being the group's third meeting, the RFIB has accomplished much to improve consumer access to and infrastructure support for renewable fuels.  Since its start in September, the RFIB has:

  • Elected leadership
  • Established operational schedules
  • Approved governing rules
  • Approved grant applications
  • Awarded more than $600,000 in cost share, renewable fuel infrastructure projects

Yvonne Wente, ISA's representative to the board and RFIB's vice-chair, is very proud of the progress being made by the group.  “We have met only a few times, and despite a short organizational time frame, are accomplishing what we intended to do –- get funding out to the countryside as quickly as possible in a way that ensures quality projects,” says Wente.  “As a soybean and corn producer, I am pleased with what we've accomplished to promote biodiesel and ethanol.”

To date, funding from the RFIB has amounted to $310,000 for biodiesel terminal and retail projects and $310,263 for ethanol and E85 retail projects.

The Iowa Soybean Association develops policies and programs that help farmers expand profit opportunities while promoting environmentally sensitive production using the soybean checkoff and other resources. The Association is governed by an elected volunteer board of 21 farmers.
