Local chain joins the growing list of stations that offer renewable,
domestically-produced soy biodiesel to customers

URBANDALE, Iowa
- Krueger BP of Des Moines is already in the holiday-giving spirit.
The family-owned business is providing consumers with a new fuel choice
by selling soy biodiesel at three of its metro locations, beginning
today, November 10. Soy biodiesel is a renewable, environmentally friendly
fuel that extends engine life at prices competitive with or lower than
No. 2 diesel. The homegrown fuel benefits Iowa farmers as well, and
helps reduce the country’s dependence on foreign oil.
Krueger BP stations at the following locations will have B5, a blend
of 5 percent soy biodiesel with 95 percent No. 2 diesel, available starting
today:

“We contacted the
Iowa Soybean Association when fuel prices began to rise and asked about
biodiesel,” says Scott Krueger, vice president of enterprises for
Krueger BP. “As a fuel dealer, we’re feeling the hurt from
the higher fuel prices, too. Biodiesel allows us to give our customers
another fuel option that is competitive with, and sometimes less expensive
than, regular diesel. We’re trying to pass the savings on to our
customers.”
Krueger BP is a locally owned company that was started by Scott’s
father, Don Krueger, about 35 years ago. Scott says the company has always
had high standards about the fuel it sells. “When we first
thought about getting biodiesel, I had two concerns,” Scott says.
“One was the price, and the other was fuel quality. We did our homework
on biodiesel and found that it meets our high standards. We are proud
to be one of the first stations to offer it in Des Moines.”
Krueger BP will have a Soy Biodiesel Kickoff on Friday, November 18 from
10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at its Grimes location. WHO-Radio will broadcast live
from the event. The Soy Biodiesel Kickoff will feature free gifts and
a discounted price of 10 cents off each gallon of soy biodiesel purchased.
Iowa Soybean Association (ISA) staff members will be on hand to answer
questions about soy biodiesel. The event is co-sponsored by the Polk County
Farm Bureau and ISA.

about soy biodiesel, please contact ISA’s Karen Anderson-Schank
at 515-251-8640 or 800-383-1423. The Iowa
Soybean Association develops policies and programs that help farmers expand
profit opportunities while promoting environmentally sensitive production
using the soybean checkoff and other resources. The Association is governed
by an elected volunteer board of 21 farmers.
