| URBANDALE, Iowa
- The Ag Media Summit is a popular, yearly gathering
of our nation's agricultural journalists, graphic designers and photographers. Many of those same communicators are members of the American Agricultural Editors' Association (AAEA), which held its annual awards ceremony at this year's Ag Media Summit in Milwaukee, Wis. on Aug. 2, 2005. The AAEA's annual competition is tough, though, recognizing only the very best in the agriculture communications business. But the Iowa Soybean Association's own Shelby Ostrander (picture) rose to the occasion, taking first place in the Special Publications Design category for her outstanding design of the Simply Soy cookbook. The cookbook was designed for The Soyfoods Council and the Iowa Soybean Association by Ostrander, who is art director at the Iowa Soybean Association. "A real mission was to make the cookbook look really inviting and really delicious, so people would take a look at cooking with soy," says Linda Funk, executive director of The Soyfoods Council. "I think through the design efforts and Shelby's expertise, we accomplished that. And it's great to see that her expertise was acknowledged and rewarded." The Simply Soy cookbook can be purchased at Borders bookstores or online at www.thesoyfoodscouncil.com. Ostrander not only does design work for special projects and publications at the Iowa Soybean Association, but is also the lead designer of the Iowa Soybean Review, Illinois Soybean Review, Nebraska Soybean Review, Ohio Soybean Review and South Dakota Soybean Review magazines. The Soybean Review can be accessed at www.soybeanreview.com. For more information about the Iowa Soybean Association, visit www.iasoybeans.com. The Iowa Soybean Association develops policies and programs that help farmers expand profit opportunities while promoting environmentally sensitive production using the soybean checkoff and other resources. The Association is governed by an elected board of 21 volunteer farmers. |
