URBANDALE,
Iowa - The Iowa Soybean Association (ISA) and Renewable
Energy Group, Inc.® (REG) have partnered to sponsor the Soy
Biodiesel 225 on September 22, 2007.
“Given our country’s need to reduce dependence on
foreign oil, we see our sponsorship of the Soy Biodiesel 225 as
a great way to build awareness of the biodiesel industry,”
says John Heisdorffer, ISA district 9 director. “We’re
very proud to be sponsoring this race at the Iowa Speedway.”
In 2006, Iowa produced the most soybeans of any state in the nation.
Iowa is also the leader in biodiesel production, ranking No. 1
in the United States with the recent start of production in plants
at Washington and Farley, Iowa. By the end of 2007, Iowa’s
soy biodiesel production capacity is expected to be more than
300 million gallons per year.
“The biodiesel industry is a great opportunity for Iowa;
we can grow the soybeans for the biodiesel plants right here in
Iowa, so all that capital stays in the state,” says Heisdorffer.
“By increasing demand for Iowa-grown soybeans, we increase
profitability for Iowa soybean farmers. Then, not only are we
helping Iowa’s economy, but we’re reducing our dependency
on foreign fuels at the same time.”
ISA, REG and the Iowa Speedway are partnering to build Iowa’s
economy and to make Iowa energy independent.
