FOELL REPRESENTS IOWA SOYBEAN FARMERS AT NATIONAL LEVEL
ANKENY, Iowa - Last week U.S. Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack announced the appointment of 17 farmer-leaders and one alternate to the United Soybean Board (USB) and soybean checkoff.  Laura Foell from Schaller, Iowa, was reappointed and will bring valuable experience and perspective as she represents the interests of Iowa soybean farmers to that board.

"I appreciate being reappointed for my second term to this volunteer position on the United Soybean Board,” Foell said. “I will continue to work diligently for the soybean farmers in Iowa and the United States to find new uses for the soybean, production research, and marketing aspects for both the domestic and international markets."

Foell is one of six farmer-leaders who were reappointed to the board. In addition, eleven new board members were appointed. All will serve three-year terms beginning immediately.

USB is made up of 68 farmer-directors who oversee the investments of the soybean checkoff on behalf of all U.S. soybean farmers. Checkoff funds are invested in the areas of animal utilization, human utilization, industrial utilization, industry relations, market access and supply. As stipulated in the Soybean Promotion, Research and Consumer Information Act, USDA’s Agricultural Marketing Service has oversight responsibilities for USB and the soybean checkoff.

The Iowa Soybean Association develops policies and programs that help farmers expand profit opportunities while promoting environmentally sensitive production using the soybean checkoff and other resources. The Association is governed by an elected volunteer board of 21 farmers.
