IOWA SOYBEAN ASSOCIATION COMMENDS SUBCOMMITTEE VOTE ON B5
ANKENY, Iowa - Legislators on a House Ways and Means subcommittee voted today to pass a bill that would make biodiesel a standard part of the state’s diesel supply.

The Iowa Biodiesel Fuel Quality Standard (SF 464), which passed the State Senate last year with bipartisan support and now awaits passage in the House, would ensure that Iowa’s diesel supply contains 5 percent biodiesel (B5).

The bill will now move forward to the full House Ways and Means Committee.

The Iowa Soybean Association (ISA) is pleased with today’s vote.

“ISA is happy to see this bill make it out of subcommittee,” said Delbert Christensen, ISA president and a soybean farmer from Audubon. “We support this B5 requirement, especially in light of yesterday’s EPA announcement of the expanded RFS2 [Renewable Fuels Standard] and its positive message for soybean-based biodiesel. As one of the leading biodiesel- and soybean-producing states, the future of biodiesel is important to Iowa. This bill affects jobs in the biodiesel industry in addition to affecting soybean farmers."

The Iowa Soybean Association develops policies and programs that help farmers expand profit opportunities while promoting environmentally sensitive production using the soybean checkoff and other resources. The Association is governed by an elected volunteer board of 21 farmers.
