A Labor Day crowd of nearly four-thousand people flocked to the race track on September 4th in pre-dawn darkness and, at times, heavy rain, to watch the first live radio broadcast from Iowa Speedway’s new state-of-the art Media Center.

WHO Radio brought its popular “Van & Bonnie in The Morning” show to Iowa Speedway for its historic 5 a.m. to 9 a.m. broadcast giving many Iowans an opportunity to visit the new track and watch the live broadcast. The program, hosted by popular veteran broadcasters Van Harden, Bonnie Lucas, and Newton native, Mark Allen, showcased the Iowa Soybean Association, which is sponsoring the track’s inaugural event, the Soy Biodiesel 250, Hooters Pro Cup Series, scheduled for September 15, 2006. ISA district 5 director, Randy VanKooten from Lynnville, Iowa, and Cate Newberg, ISA biobased products manager, both attended the event to represent ISA.

Visitors began lining up along Interstate 80 at 4 a.m. to enter the track’s infield where the Media Center is located. Iowa Speedway officials served coffee and doughnuts to guests who spent the early morning hours walking the 7/8-mile asphalt oval track, a “Rusty Wallace Signature Series Track,” sometimes under umbrellas in the early morning rain.
