ISA announces winners of 200-hour
tractor leases
ISA announced the winners of its Opportunity Sweepstakes on Sept. 30, 2010. Steve Prybil of Riverside won a 200-hour John Deere™ 8320R tractor lease and Craig Sage of Waterloo won a 200-hour Case IH Magnum™ 335 tractor lease. Both Prybil and Sage also won $1,500 worth of soy biodiesel.

Northey encourages farmers to closely check anhydrous nurse tanks for leaks
Iowa Ag Secretary Bill Northey encourages farmers to check any anhydrous ammonia nurse tanks they have on their farm for pin-hole leaks or faulty welds. Exposure to gaseous ammonia can result in lung damage and death, so it is very important that any leaks be discovered in a timely manner.

USSEC names Jim Sutter as CEO
The U.S. Soybean Export Council has announced Jim Sutter as CEO for the organization. Sutter will lead USSEC’s efforts to expand international markets for U.S. soybeans and soy products. Sutter’s recent experience has included day-to-day responsibility for Cargill’s Iowa soybean processing business.

Asian ladybeetles

Iowa State University researchers observed very low populations of soybean aphids across the state during the 2010 growing season. This is good for soybean growers, as what few aphids were in the field were well below threshold levels. As harvest continues, there will be an additional benefit of the low soybean aphid populations: fewer multi-colored Asian lady beetles.

DTN announces plans for Ag Summit 2010
DTN and The Progressive Farmer invite ISA members to Ag Summit 2010, "Recalibrate for the New Normal," at the Downtown Chicago Marriott, Dec. 7-10.
