ISA announces newly elected directors
ISA announces its new district directors, elected by soybean growers of Iowa. The newest district director is Jan Christensen of Shenandoah, representing District 7. Others reelected to three-year terms include Brian Kemp of Sibley, District 1; Dean Coleman of Humboldt, District 2; Cindi Grover of Elma, District 3; and John Heisdorffer of Keota, District 9; and Ron Heck of Perry, director at large.

Urgent call for action: Your comments are needed!
With the future of the U.S. biodiesel industry at stake, the Iowa Soybean Association (ISA) joins the American Association (ASA) in urging soybean producers, their family and friends to voice concerns regarding the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) proposed rule on the implementation of the expanded Renewable Fuel Standard (RFS-2).

Identifying and managing Sudden Death Syndrome in soybean fields
Sudden Death Syndrome (SDS) is showing up in some soybean fields in Iowa. While there's not a lot growers can do about SDS this far in the season, Dr. Alison Robertson, extension plant pathologist at Iowa State University, says producers still need to get out in the field to determine if they have an SDS problem.

Russian delegation visits Heck farm as part of Khrushchev celebration
More than 70 visitors, including political and agribusiness leaders from Russia, toured the Ron Heck farm near Perry, Iowa, on Sunday. The visit was part of a four-day program marking the 50th anniversary of the 1959 visit of Soviet Premier Nikita Khrushchev, who came to Iowa to learn about American agriculture from Roswell “Bob” Garst and whose visit has been seen as a milestone toward ending the Cold War

Record participation at NCSRP-sponsored soybean rust workshop
Asian soybean rust continues to be a major concern for North American farmers, agri-business professionals and researchers, who came in record numbers to this year’s two-day Asian soybean rust short course in Quincy, Florida. Participants learned about subjects such as soybean rust identification, control strategies, how weather affects rust and progress towards rust-resistant genetics.

NBB applauds Ford's B20 approval in 2011 F-Series Super Duty® trucks
Biodiesel supporters are cheering Ford Motor Company’s announcement that its all-new Ford-built 2011 Ford F-Series Super Duty® diesel pickups will be fully compatible with a 20 percent biodiesel blend (B20). “This is the first of what we expect to be many formal announcements of B20 approval in new clean diesel technology,” said Steve Howell, technical director for the National Biodiesel Board.

Feeding the world in 2050 to be discussed at Food System Summit
The number of people on the wrong side of the poverty line took a turn for the worse during the global food price increase that peaked during the spring of 2008. John Lamb of the World Bank will share his vision for feeding the world in the year 2050, including changes in food demand and the drivers behind them, during his presentation at the 2009 Food System Summit, set for Oct. 6-7 in Kansas City.
