Advice for storing wet soybeans

Wet, cool fall weather has created challenging harvest conditions in Iowa. Fields are wet, and so is the grain being harvested. For tips on how to store soybeans that are too high in moisture, check out information published in Iowa State University’s Integrated Crop Management News by Charles Hurburgh, Department of Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering and Palle Pedersen, Department of Agronomy. The article outlines several soybean quality issues, but offers storage management advice as well.

Recommendations for those
considering no-till

By Palle Pedersen, ISU Extension Soybean Specialist

On-Farm Network trial results available

Weather has really slowed harvest this year, but growers working with the ISA On-Farm Network® are beginning to turn in yield data from their on-farm replicated strip trials. To see results, go to www.isafarmnet.com and select “2009” from the “Trial Results” tab.  The results pages are a work in progress, but as they’re refined and more yields are reported, you’ll be able to select trials by crop and by type, as well as by county. Keep watching the site. We’ll post new results every Wednesday until all are in.

Sign up for nematode management trials next spring

Got an issue with nematodes? Whether the problem is in corn or soybeans, the ISA On-Farm Network® would like to talk with you. We need 20 soybean growers and 13 corn growers to test a new seed treatment nematode management product from Bayer CropScience. The product, called VOTiVO, interrupts the feeding cycle of nematodes. Details for the trials and protocols are posted at www.isafarmnet.com. For more information, send an e-mail to info@isafarmnet.com.
