Agronomic tip of the week

Did you know soybean cyst nematode (SCN) population densities and the impact of SCN population densities on soybean yield are related to soil pH? As soil pH increases, so do SCN population densities, while yield decreases.ISU Extension Soybean Specialist Palle Pedersen addresses the issue in this week's Tip of the Week.

ISA's Washington insider report: House and Senate clear FY 2010 agriculture spending bill

Both the House and Senate passed the FY 2010 agriculture spending bill by votes of 263 to162 and 76 to 22 respectively. President Obama is expected to sign the bill.

Wright receives ISU's Henry A. Wallace award

Dr. David Wright, ISA’s director of contract research and strategic initiatives, was presented with the Henry A. Wallace award on Friday, Oct. 16. The award is presented by the Iowa State University (ISU) College of Agriculture and Life Sciences annually to honor an ISU alumnus who has made an outstanding contribution to national or international agriculture.

Truck and grain cart weights

As harvest progresses, reports surface about farmers experiencing law enforcement stops and facing fines for overweight grain carts. Please keep in mind that weight limits from June 1 through Jan. 31 "shall not exceed twenty-eight thousand pounds on any one axle – provided that the maximum gross vehicle weight of the grain cart shall not exceed ninety-six thousand pounds."  These limits apply to all Iowa roadways, including unpaved roads.

Calling for farm family photos! ASA prepares for 90th Anniversary
