House Agriculture Chairman Seeks to Stir Up 2012 Farm Bill Debate

House Agriculture Committee Chairman Collin Peterson (D., Minn.), who said he is looking to "stir up" debate over how to write the next farm bill for 2012, invited witnesses who were often critical of current policy to testify at a hearing on Thursday, May 13.

ASA Update on Climate Change Legislation

ASA and other farm groups are sending letters to all Senators, urging them to vote in favor of the Murkowski resolution disapproving EPA moving forward on regulating greenhouse gas emissions. Meanwhile, ASA continues to have concerns with climate change proposals, including the just unveiled Kerry-Lieberman bill.

ISA Hosts Austrian Visitors

On May 13, ISA had the opportunity to host a group of high-level agricultural leaders from Austria. They were trying to get a good overview of U.S. agriculture in general and learn more about U.S. beef, poultry and pork production, but the topic they wanted most to discuss regarding soybeans was biotechnology.

China Begins Accepting U.S. Pork Shipments

China has given official notice it is again accepting shipments of U.S. pork, after closing its market to U.S. pork in late April 2009 in the wake of an outbreak of the H1N1 influenza, which the media misnamed “swine” flu.
