ISA Presents Food Network Star,
Sandra Lee of ‘Semi-Homemade Cooking
Guess who’s coming to dinner? The Iowa Soybean Association (ISA) presents home and style expert, Sandra Lee, the star of the Emmy-nominated show “Semi-Homemade Cooking” on the Food Network.
A cooking demonstration and Q&A will be held Thursday, July 17, 6-8 p.m. at Hoyt Sherman Place in Des Moines. Sandra Lee will prepare a Semi-Homemade® menu of delectable foods made with healthy, soy-based ingredients, and there will be an opportunity to taste samples after the show.
Soyfoods have proven health benefits for women and men of all ages. Soy has been shown to fight heart disease, cholesterol and even the chances of breast cancer when consumed early in life. More and more positive benefits from consuming soy are being discovered on a regular basis.
“Soy protein is the only plant protein that is a complete protein (all essential amino acids) and has no cholesterol,” says Linda Funk, executive director of the Soyfoods Council. “In 1990, the Food and Drug Administration gave soy protein a health claim that states if 25 grams a day are consumed in the context of a healthy diet, soy protein may reduce the risk of coronary heart disease, which is the number one killer for both men and women in Iowa and the United States.”
Sandra Lee’s best-selling collection of cookbooks will be on sale during the event. Don’t miss the opportunity to purchase your own personal, autographed copy.
Tickets can be purchased early online for $25 between May 15-18 by going to www.ticketmaster.com, looking up “Hoyt Sherman” and searching for “Semi-Homemade with Sandra Lee.” Then type in the password “soybean.” Tickets are sold on a first come, first serve basis; don’t miss this great opportunity to get the best seat in the house. Tickets will go on sale to the general public starting May 19 through www.ticketmaster.com and Hoyt Sherman Box Office by calling 515-244-0199.
The event is part of ISA’s “What’s on Your Plate in ‘08” program. ISA is a progressive advocate for a healthier planet — in our lifestyles, environment and communities.
“As we look at what we are eating more closely than ever, soyfoods are a great option to integrate into your meals,” Funk says. “Sandra Lee will demonstrate how easy and delicious soyfoods are in everyday meals.”
