Legislative update - week 8
With spring around the corner, the eighth week of session was also the last funnel. That means for bills to remain alive, they must have passed off the floor of the first chamber (House or Senate), and passed through a committee in the opposite chamber by March 5.

ASA Voting Delegates set policy direction for 2010-2011
Producers from the American Soybean Association's 25 state affiliates served as Voting Delegates last week as they met to review and revise ASA policy direction. Issues they addressed include: crop insurance, bio-energy and bio-based products, technology, climate change and environmental regulations.

More than 500 attend the 2010 On-Farm Network® Conference
More than 500 people attended the annual On-Farm Network® Conference in Ames on February 22, which included breakout sessions covering results of the replicated strip trial studies conducted by more than 400 growers last year. Many of the presentations were recorded and will be posted.

Last call for ISA ag scholarship applicants
ISA Ag Scholarship Program applications must be postmarked no later than March 15, 2010. This year ISA will award as many as ten $1,500 scholarships to capable high school seniors pursuing a degree in agriculture or an agriculture-related field.

ISA applauds Senate approval of biodiesel tax credit reinstatement
“Iowa soybean farmers have invested millions of dollars in helping create the biodiesel industry in Iowa, and this tax credit is vitally important to the viability of this industry,” said ISA President Delbert Christensen. “But we still have legislative work to do.”
