Because China is by far the largest customer of U.S. soybeans and our foreign customers value personal relationships, a group from is visiting China until April 1 to promote soybeans, specifically Iowa grown soybeans. Follow them as they report back via travel blog. In addition, members are invited to join a conference call with the group on March 29.

ISA Leaders Meet with Leaders in Washington, D.C.
Ten ISA leaders traveled to Washington, D.C., to attend the ASA board meeting and meet with Iowa’s congressional delegation. Discussions centered around Farm Bill 2012 issues, reducing the regulatory burden on agriculture, and making sure export markets and free trade agreements are held in high esteem.

ISA Leaders Work Issues at the Capitol
Eight ISA district and state leaders, along with field staff, met at the Iowa Capitol on Tuesday for an Ag Week Lobby Day. After an issues briefing, the group worked the lobby, discussing several bills with legislators. A top concern was the Ag Protection Act.

Legislative Update – Week 10

Nine Senate Democrats wrote a joint letter to their colleagues, raising concerns about the potential issues of allowing one or more new nuclear power plants in Iowa. Putze Named to U.S. Farmers & Ranchers Alliance Board of Directors
Aaron Putze, director of external relations for the Iowa Soybean Association (ISA), has been appointed to the U.S. Farmers & Ranchers Alliance (USFRA) board of directors. USFRA represents nearly 30 leading farmer- and rancher-led agricultural organizations that have joined together to develop messages and programs that enhance public trust in America’s food supply.

Thune: Congressional Farm Support Harder Sell
Senate Agriculture Committee member John Thune says bi-partisan support for government farm programs has deteriorated since the last farm bill. The South Dakota Republican says people believe the current farm economy has resulted in less necessity for a federal farm program, but there needs to be a foundation supporting agriculture when commodity prices come back down.

China Group Investing $2.4 bln in Brazil Grains
China's Chongqing Grain Group (CGG) plans to invest 4 billion reais ($2.4 billion) in an agricultural complex in Brazil's northeast, officials in Bahia state said on Monday, expanding China's growing presence in Brazil.

Program Offers Students Opportunity to Travel, Learn in China
