Weed emergence and development in the Iowa soybean fields has been excellent. Unfortunately, the ability to make timely applications of appropriate herbicides to manage (perhaps better said “control”) these weeds has been less successful. The concern is now for management tactics necessary to resolve the developing issues.

Gulf Oil Spill May Harm U.S. Grain Exports, Says ISU Market Economist
Projections are that the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico may not be contained until late summer, or later. That could affect grain prices for the United States and overseas markets, according to Iowa State University grain markets specialist Chad Hart.

CSIF Hosts "Doing Things Right" Workshop
The Coalition to Support Iowa’s Farmers (CSIF) invites Iowa farmers and the public to attend a series of “Doing Things Right” on-farm workshops focusing on the planting of vegetative environmental buffers (VEBs), the Green Farmstead Partner program and other livestock production issues.
