ISA directors hear about climate change issues

Even though agriculture only takes about 42 pages of the EPA’s more than 1000-page proposal, agriculture’s involvement is key to pending climate change legislation. ISA directors recently heard reports on climate change legislation from several experts.

 

Concerns about herbicide resistant weeds in Iowa

ISU weed scientists have received numerous calls about difficulties controlling weeds with specific herbicides. Demonstrations were established this spring to determine the responses of common waterhemp and giant ragweed to commonly used herbicides. USDA announces results of soybean checkoff request for referendum

USDA requires a request for referendum on the soybean checkoff every five years. The most recent period took place from May 4 to May 29, and USDA has announced the results. To learn more, click here.

 

Hole in one winner at ISA Golf Classic!

William Teddy, a summer intern for Cargill, made a 175 yard drive for a hole in one during ISA’s Golf Classic, held on July 8. Teddy was among the nearly 90 golfers who participated in the seventh annual ISA Golf Classic, with proceeds supporting the association’s ag scholarships. To learn more, click here.

 

Wal-Mart asks suppliers 15 questions on sustainability

Wal-Mart has announced its long-awaited plans to develop a worldwide sustainable product index through a three-step process that starts with 15 questions its top-tier U.S. suppliers will need to answer by Oct. 1. The questions encompass four aspects of sustainable product production.

 

ISA invites NW Iowa farmers to join webinar about aphids

Northwest Iowa farmers are invited to participate in a webinar presentation on Tuesday, July 28, addressing the current situation regarding soybean aphids in Iowa. Iowa women experiencing firsthand the changing world of agriculture are encouraged to register now for the Third Annual Iowa Women in Ag (IWIA) Conference at the BioFuture Conference Center near Huxley on July 30. Volunteer at ISA's State Fair Booth

The Iowa State Fair will be here before we know it and we’re still looking for some volunteers to help at the ISA booth in the Agriculture Building.  This year’s fair is Aug. 13-23.  All volunteers will receive an admission ticket, a parking pass and a T-shirt.
