Agronomic tip of the week: Note ISU performance results of SCN-resistant varieties
ISU has recently finalized the results of its 2009 SCN-resistant Soybean Variety Trial. Greg Tylka shares results of the experiments conducted at nine locations throughout Iowa and summarizes observations about them.

ISA to award up to $15,000 in ag scholarships
ISA will present as many as ten $1,500 scholarships this year to capable high school seniors pursuing a degree in agriculture or an agriculture-related field.

On-Farm Network® Conference scheduled for February 23
The annual ISA On-Farm Network® Conference will be held on Feb. 23. Newer topics offered this year will include results and discussions of: sulfur trials, plant population, nitrification inhibitors, crop sensors and anhydrous ammonia sidedressing trials.

DNR accepting applications for Watershed Planning Grants
If you’re interested in creating a local group to improve your community’s lake, stream or river, DNR Watershed Planning Grants can help you get started. The DNR is now accepting applications for the grants, which help local groups develop comprehensive, long-term Watershed Management Plans.

Women: Attend a regional Women in Ag workshop
Women involved with agriculture are encouraged to mark your calendars to attend one of four regional Iowa Women in Agriculture (IWIA) meetings. Workshop sessions will focus on financial management, marketing, new online marketing choices, estate planning, long-term care insurance, wind energy, and local food production.
Two are currently scheduled:
Jan. 30 in Atlantic Feb. 20 in Decorah

USDA to measure the financial health of agriculture
USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS) is contacting nearly 1,900 Iowa farmers for the 2010 Agricultural Resource Management Survey (ARMS). According to the USDA, this is an opportunity to set the record straight about issues that affect your business and your community and ensure that policies and programs are based on accurate, real-world data.
