Legislative Reception Draws Strong Crowd
ISA's second annual legislative reception drew a strong crowd of producers and legislators on Tuesday evening. Nearly 70 legislators braved the cold weather to travel down from the Capitol and meet with more than 50 soybean producers to talk one-on-one about agriculture’s priorities for this session.

Agronomic Tip of Week: Check ISU's List of SDS-Resistant Varieties for Iowa
The best management tactic for SDS is to select varieties with resistance to SDS. A new publication, Sudden Death Syndrome-Resistant Soybean Varieties for Iowa – PM 3009, has been produced by ISU and ISA and is now available to the public. The publication lists more than 300 commercial soybean varieties resistant to SDS in maturity groups I, II and III.

Iowa Ag Secretary Northey Keynotes 2011 On-Farm Network Conference
Iowa Ag Secretary and farmer Bill Northey will kick off the 2011 Iowa Soybean Association On-Farm Network® Conference, to be held Feb. 22, 2011, in Ames, with a discussion of current efforts by growers to improve fertilizer management practices. In addition, the conference will feature educational sessions on topics studied by On-Farm Network participating farmers.

ISA to Award Up to $15,000 in Scholarships
ISA is looking for qualified candidates to apply for its agriculture scholarships. ISA will award up to $15,000 this year through the ISA Ag Scholarship Program; it will be presented in as many as ten $1,500 scholarships to capable high school seniors pursuing a degree in agriculture or an agriculture-related field.

Sweeney: Agriculture has Many Opportunities in Iowa
As chair of the House Agriculture Committee, Rep. Annette Sweeney, R-Alden, said she sees big things ahead for the state of Iowa and the agricultural community in particular. "I'm very delighted about the members we have on both sides of the aisle for the agricultural committee. Both sides are mindful of the fact that agriculture drives this state," Sweeney said.
