Agronomic tip of the week: Managing white mold

The cool, wet conditions this past growing season were favorable for a number of soybean diseases including white mold. Management of the disease requires an integrated set of practices based on an understanding of the disease cycle.

Iowans participate in Asian trade mission

Sheila Hebenstreit and Wayne Fredericks from Iowa were among the delegation led by AGP to the Philippines to meet with soybean customers and host a customer appreciation event.  The group also participated in the first AGP/farmer trade mission to Malaysia.

Grassley among senators vowing aid for biodiesel

Hoping to reassure beleaguered biodiesel producers, leaders of a key Senate committee, including Iowa Senator Charles Grassley, have pledged to resurrect the federal subsidy for the fuel additive early this year. The $1-a-gallon tax credit expired Dec. 31 after the Senate failed to agree on an extension.

Iowa farmland prices dip for first time in decade

For the first time in a decade, Iowa's farmland lost value last year. The Waterloo Courier reports that 62 percent of the 457 real estate brokers and ag lenders who participated in ISU Extension's annual farmland value survey reported a decrease in sales this year.

Matt Danner is 2010 ASA/DuPont Young Leader

2010 EQIP applications due January 29

Nearly $18 million in financial assistance is available to Iowa agricultural producers to apply conservation practices on their farms through the Environmental Quality Incentives Program (EQIP). To be considered for the first round of funding selections, farmers must apply at local USDA-NRCS offices by Jan. 29.
