Seed treatments can increase yield in fields where risk of seedling diseases is high. Assessing the risk of seedling diseases in particular fields before use of a seed treatment can provide the producer needed protection while managing production cost.

Soybean checkoff selects USSEC as International Marketing contractor
Farmer-leaders of the United Soybean Board (USB) and soybean checkoff have selected the U.S. Soybean Export Council (USSEC) as its primary contractor to implement its 2011 International Marketing program.

NBB urges Congress to promptly extend biodiesel tax incentive
Manning Feraci, NBB Vice President for Federal Affairs, issued a statement in the wake of the Senate’s procedural vote on Jobs legislation, saying, "It is critical that a retroactive extension of the biodiesel tax incentive be included in the first legislative vehicle that passes through Congress."

Johnson feels the U.S. risks losing trade advantage
Allen Johnson, former USTR Ag Ambassador and also former CEO of ISA, now a DC-based trade consultant, believes the U.S. is getting left behind in global trade by not moving forward with pending Free Trade Agreements with countries like Columbia, Panama and Korea.

USDA to measure 2010 planting intentions
USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS) representatives will soon be contacting selected farmers to collect information on producers planting intentions for 2010 and the amount of old crop grain stored on the farm.

Terra Industries bought by Norwegian company
A Norwegian fertilizer producer, Yara International, agreed on Feb. 15 to buy Iowa-based Terra Industries for $4.1 billion to increase its presence in the U.S.

Farm Bureau, soybean checkoff launch Food Check-Out Facebook page
The American Farm Bureau Federation and the soybean checkoff recently launched a new joint Internet Facebook page to promote national Food Check-Out Week, Feb. 21-27. The week recognizes and celebrates the commitment of America’s farmers and ranchers to producing safe, healthy and abundant food.
