ISA sets state and federal legislative priorities

At their recent meeting, the ISA board of directors set their priorities for issues that will impact soybean farmers in 2010. The board clearly identified addressing actions and proposed legislation against livestock production by animal rights groups as their top issue in both state and federal arenas.

ISA welcomes RFS2 rule

ISA welcomed Wednesday's EPA issuance of the final rule to implement the expanded Renewable Fuels Standard (RFS2) provided for in the Energy Independence and Security Act of 2007(EISA).

ISA commends subcommittee's vote on B5

Legislators on a House Ways and Means subcommittee voted on Thursday to pass a bill that would make biodiesel a standard part of the state’s diesel supply. ISA is pleased with the vote.

Veterans group criticizes Grassley; ISA responds

A national veterans group has taken aim this week at Sen. Chuck Grassley in the debate over a climate bill that includes a cap on carbon emissions. ISA was among several groups making a joint statement in response.

Herbicide resistance:  If it is not broken, now is the time to “fix” it!

Given that herbicide resistant weeds are a historic problem and glyphosate resistant weeds are now problematic in Iowa, the well-known old adage of not fixing something until it is broken must be reworded.

The annual ISA On-Farm Network® Conference will be held on Feb. 23. Newer topics offered this year will include results and discussions of: sulfur trials, plant population, nitrification inhibitors, crop sensors and anhydrous ammonia sidedressing trials.

ISA's new office has been completely paid for. That announcement was made by CEO Kirk Leeds at ISA’s board of directors’ January meeting, the first board meeting held in the new headquarters.

District 1 takes proactive environmental approach

Lakeside Lab at Lake Okoboji was the setting in late January as more than 20 soybean growers and conservation directors and staff in ISA’s District 1 gathered to start a dialogue as stakeholders working together in the interest of northwest Iowa’s water quality.

Wind energy workshop

A wind energy workshop will be held on March 5 at the Southwestern Community College in Creston, Iowa, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The workshop is designed to provide wind energy development knowledge for residents, farming operations, schools and businesses.
