ISA Policy Conference Looks at Strategies for Upcoming Legislative Session
Directors and delegates from Iowa’s nine crop districts met in Ankeny on Dec. 14, for ISA's Annual Meeting and Policy Conference. More than 65 people attended the session that featured presentations by legislative and congressional strategy experts who encouraged the group to get their positive ag messages prepared for increasing numbers of urban lawmakers.

ISA Applauds Senate Approval of Tax Bill
The Senate on Wednesday approved the "Tax Relief, Unemployment Insurance Reauthorization, and Job Creation Act of 2010" by an 81 to 19 vote. Among its many provisions, the bill retroactively extends the biodiesel tax incentive through 2011.

Iowa DOT to Crack Down on Farm Truck Regulations
In February, the Iowa DOT announced it would adopt the federal requirement for putting U.S. DOT numbers on all commercial trucks, including farm pickups with a gross vehicle weight rating of more than 10,000 pounds. This affects some 3/4-ton and all 1-ton pickups. Tthe grace period will end in October.

USDA Report Outlines Food Access in America
The USDA's Economic Research Service in its published report, "Food Security in the United States 2009," indicates that 17.4 million households in America had difficulty providing enough food due to a lack of resources, about the same as in 2008.

Breakthrough Ingredient Announced for Personal Care Products
Elevance Renewable Sciences, Inc. and Dow Corning Corporation have aligned to develop a product line of ingredients for personal care products using renewable resources. Emulsifying Soy Wax is used in hair care and skin care products, as well as in color cosmetics, and offers both cost and environmental benefits.
