ISA leaders visit Washington

Several ISA directors traveled to Washington, D.C., in July to visit with their representatives in Congress. They also attended a legislative forum hosted by the American Soybean Association, where they learned more about several important issues that will impact soybean growers.

ASA releases policy brief for August

As Congress works to make progress on key legislative issues before its August recess, ASA has been busy lobbying lawmakers on climate change legislation, biodiesel issues, food safety legislation, and funding for agricultural research and disease monitoring, among other issues that will directly impact the soybean industry.

Report released on soybean sustainability

The Council for Agricultural Science and Technology recently released a report on the sustainability of U.S. soybean production. The report compared the sustainability of soybeans grown organically, conventionally and with the use of transgenic technology. The results of the CAST report indicated that U.S. soybean production has a “new” conventional system based on biotechnology.

Aphid update by Palle Pedersen

Staying ahead of biosecurity risks that threaten agriculture

Speakers at a recent symposium in Ames noted that, while there is potential for ag crime and ag terrorism, the threat from accidental introduction of pest and disease problems is probably understated, with more commodities being moved farther than ever before. They also showed how technologies are being integrated to identify threats and provide both an early warning system and a response tool.
