Agronomic tip of the week
Early season tank mixing considerations by Erin Hodgson, ISU Extension Entomologist
Farmers are probably finalizing plans for the growing season, including scheduling early-season weed control applications. Some growers tank-mix insecticides with herbicides during the first application, thinking they are protecting yield, but growers who want to participate in IPM (integrated pest management) should consider only treating when pests exceed an action threshold.

ISA leaders participate in Japan trip
ISA President Delbert Christensen, President-Elect Randy VanKooten and CEO Kirk Leeds recently participated in a trip to Japan to promote trade and commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Yamanashi “hog lift.” Leeds described their experience in his blog.

ASA policy brief and outlook - April 2010
There was good news and bad news in March for moving the American Soybean Association's policy agenda forward this year. Enactment of the health care reform bill – whether you liked it or not – cleared the way for Congress to take up other legislation, including retroactive extension of the biodiesel tax credit.

Report identifies impact of genetically engineered crops
This week the National Research Council released a report, “Impact of Genetically Engineered Crops on Farm Sustainability in the United States.” The report is generally very positive regarding biotechnology and farmers' use of it, while also identifying risks that must be addressed.

ISA's Ag Urban Leadership Initiative is looking for Iowans who would like to shape the future direction of our state.
